COMPUTER MEDIA DISPOSAL AND DESTRUCTION SERVICES
In today's digital world, confidential information can be found in a wide variety of formats including but not limited to Magnetic backup tapes (any kind of LTO, DLT, mini cartridges and many more), Hard Disk Drives and Optical media (like CDs and CD-ROMs, DVDs and DVD-ROMs, Blu-ray, and HD-DVD).
As companies grow and evolve more and more client and business data is transferred to new media resulting in the need to dispose of obsolete, unwanted or damaged media periodically; unlike in the past, throwing it in the bin is no longer a viable option – it is also illegal for 2 reasons:
Data Security
All organisations are required to protect and prevent any form of abuse against the storage or processing of personal data of individuals, public and private sectors in Malaysia for commercial transactions as stipulated under the PDPA, Malaysia.
It is therefore essential that every organisation has a secure and traceable methodology in the collection, removal and destruction of magnetic media and the data thereon.
Environmental Protection
Previously, magnetic media were dumped in landfill sites together with household and general waste but it was quickly realised that magnetic media does not break down and decay. It is no longer lawfulto dispose of magnetic media this way.
Scope of Work
Our back-up tape disposal service team will be sent on site to verify the quantity and types of media which is to be disposed of. We can carry out the secure destruction of your Magnetic backup tapes (any kind of LTO, DLT, mini cartridges and many more), Hard Disk Drives and Optical media (like CDs and CD-ROMs, DVDs and DVD-ROMs, Blu-ray, and HD-DVD).
Logical erasure of magnetic media and hard disk drives can be performed on site by way of degaussing. Degaussing tapes removes all stored data, commonly known as demagnetizing, degaussing actually rearranges the magnetic tape surface, deleting all previously stored data.
Degaussing is a process where the magnetic tape is exposed to a powerful, alternating magnetic field. Degaussing removes previously written data, leaving the media in a magnetically randomized (blank) state.
We use the new and advance degausser from US, Garner Products, Inc. Garner HD-3WXL Hard Drive & Tape Degausser is the most innovative product in the Garner line of degaussers. The HD-3WXL erases hard drives (laptop, desktop and network) and high coercivity tape media, including all format of LTO(1 to 8), Super DLT, DLT, DDS, 3590 and more.
Physical destruction will be performed off site at a secure disposal facility whereby the degaussed magnetic tapes and media will be boxed securely and transported to Dengkil Inert Waste Landfill's legal dumpsite. The degaussed magnetic tape will be crushed into small pieces by using an excavator and all the broken pieces will then be buried. Alternative methods of include shredding or incineration.
Photographs will be taken and shown to the client as a proof of destruction.
A full report and certificate of destruction & disposition will be issued to the concerned party upon completion of the project.
